Event Description:
Explore the timeless art of Chinese calligraphy and painting in this immersive, hands-on workshop open to all skill levels. Participants will gain a deeper appreciation for Chinese aesthetics while learning practical techniques from a skilled calligrapher and artist.
The workshop begins at 10:00 AM with a brief history of Chinese calligraphy and painting, explaining its cultural significance and evolution. The instructor will introduce the essential tools—brush, ink, paper, and inkstone—and demonstrate proper brush handling techniques.
From 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, attendees practice basic brush strokes and learn to write simple characters, focusing on balance, rhythm, and flow. This foundational exercise builds the skills necessary for more complex compositions.
Lunch break from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM allows participants to rest and discuss their experience informally.
The afternoon session, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM, introduces traditional Chinese painting techniques such as landscape and bamboo brushwork. Participants will create their own small artworks under the instructor’s guidance, experimenting with brush pressure, ink density, and composition.
Throughout the workshop, the instructor will share stories about the symbolic meanings behind common motifs and how calligraphy and painting are expressions of both skill and spirit.
The day ends with a group exhibition where participants display their work and receive constructive feedback. This encourages sharing and inspires continued practice.
This workshop provides a unique opportunity to engage deeply with Chinese culture through art while developing concentration, patience, and creativity.
